Man: Music - It's like magic crack, in a way.

Current Music: "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" - Leonard "Spock" Nemoy
So I started surfing Youtube some time ago, and while I enjoy the parodies and old school BBC clips and videos of dogs and all that jazz, what has really addicted me are the fannish music videos. Finding one that really fits the characters and/or one that moves well with the music can get just about any song stuck in my head. However, I have no editing equipment or skills, thank the Valar, so I'm reduced to searching out good ones. And infecting people with nugzul. Boromir/"Under the Bridge" = sweet, sweet cracky rockin' love. How has this not been done?

So, for audiophiles: what songs really strike you as perfect for a character/setting/etc.? Vidders and artists, what's your inspiration track? Any good ones you'd set to music? Ah, heck, writers, do you use a soundtrack or song lyrics for your fics? Feel free to smoke link 'em if you got 'em.

I don't do vids, but I do enjoy seeing them. YouTube can be a pain, though - search for one thing and you'll get a lot of totally unrelated junk.

As for songs for characters... I could come up with a LOT, honestly, because I'm a major audiophile. But some of my favorites that I'd love to see done by someone would be Seal's "Love's Divine" for Eowyn, Gary Jules' "Mad World" for Frodo, and possibly Evanescence's "Before the Dawn" for Aragorn/Arwen. I could also totally see Nightwish's "Feel For You" for the Eowyn/Aragorn cannon interaction. And I think someone ought to do a vid to Nightwish's "Elvenpath" because the song is so very based on Tolkien anyway.

I'm gonna cut myself off there, before I get way overinvolved in this one. I'm one of those odd people who can come up with a song or lyric for just about any situation - and often several.

the best music video ever for LOTR was Greenwaves, by Secret Garden, with Sam/Rosie. I have no idea where you'll find this video, however, it's so long ago.

ah, songs for characters....so many to choose from. "the only one" by Evanescence, has always been a song for Boromir and Gondor in general. Switchfoot's "Golden Child" is written for Arwen and the ride to the gray havens, and their "The Blues" fits so well with Theoden and Theodred and simbelyne. "We're so far away" by Mae is an odd reminder of Aragorn/Arwen for me (and I can so imagine the music video.........) and the old ballad Caledonia is perfect for a Ranger.

Elf.

I've been making connections and stuff since I got an iPod, but I didn't really listen to much music before. So:

'Take It Back' by Pink Floyd - Feanor/Nerdanel
'Starlight' by Muse - Elrond and Arwen or Thingol and Luthien
'Romeo and Juliet' by Dire Straits - Beren/Luthien or Arwen/Aragorn
'So Far Away From Me' by Dire Straits - Arwen/Aragorn (the Thorongil years)
'Brothers in Arms' by Dire Straits - soldiers in Gondor or Arnor

That's all I can think of for now, and yeah, kinda Dire Straits obsessed.

I love your idea for "Take It Back", that would be excellent. There are two more songs from "The Division Bell" that I would love to see made into music videos:

"Poles Apart" Bormomir, Faramir and Denethor
"Keep Talking" Fëanor and Fingolfin

One of my favorite vids that has already been made uses Sarah McLachlan's "Full of Grace" for movie Aragorn/Boromir (yes, I'm one of those eeevil slashers ;-) ).

Dwarf

Tons of Within Temptation songs link in..."Angels", "Forgiven", "Memories", "Pale" especially, "Our Farewell". Forgiven works very well for Aragorn/Arwen and Pale and Our Farewell make excellent LOTR tributes.
